General information

The term personal data is defined in the GDPR. Accordingly, this means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (“data subject”)/ An identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person. For example, this includes your real name, your address, telephone number or your date of birth.

For mere informational use of the website, i.e. If you do not register or otherwise transmit information to us, we will only collect the personal data transmitted by your browser to our server. If you would like to view our website, we will collect the following data, which we require for technical reasons in order to deliver our website to you and to ensure the stability and security thereof (the legal basis is a legitimate interest pursuant to point (f) of Article 6(1) GDPR).

Within the scope of pursuing our interests pursuant to point (f) of Article 6(1) GDPR, we have considered and assessed our interests in the provision and your interests in a data protection-compliant processing of your personal data. As the data shown below is sometimes necessary for technical reasons in order to provide our service, and in order to able to deliver our website and ensure the stability and security thereof, particularly to offer protection against abuse, we have come to the conclusion that these data can be processed, subject to state-of-the art data security, whereby your interest in data protection-compliant processing has been properly taken in to account.

Data are logged for the delivery of the website and the storage of data in log files is absolutely necessary for the operation of the Internet page. The user therefore cannot object.

Legal basis of our data processing

The processing of personal data can be based on various legal bases. If we need your data to fulfill a contract with you or to respond to inquiries from you regarding a contract, the legal basis for this data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. b GDPR.

If we obtain your consent for certain data processing, the legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1. p. 1 lit. a GDPR. We carry out some data processing on the basis of our legitimate interest, whereby a balancing of your interests worthy of protection and our legitimate interests is always carried out. The legal basis here is Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f GDPR. Insofar as processing is necessary for the fulfillment of a legal obligation to which we are subject, the legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. c GDPR.

Below we explain how we process personal data via our website.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies. Cookies are files that are deposited on your computer by a website you visit and allow your browser to be reassigned. Cookies transmit information to the entity that sets the cookie. Cookies can store various information, such as your language setting, the duration of your visit to our website or the entries you have made there. This prevents you, for example, from having to re-enter required form data each time you use the site. The information stored in cookies can also be used to recognize preferences and to tailor content according to areas of interest.

There are different types of cookies: session cookies are sets of data that are only temporarily held in memory and are deleted when you close your browser. Permanent or persistent cookies are automatically deleted after a specified duration, which may vary depending on the cookie. The information can also be stored in text files on your computer with this type of cookie. However, you can also delete these cookies at any time via your browser settings.

First-party cookies are set by the website you are currently visiting. Only that website is allowed to read information from these cookies. Third-party cookies are set by organizations that are not operators of the website you are visiting. For example, these cookies are used by marketing companies.

The legal basis for possible processing of personal data by means of cookies and their storage period may vary. Insofar as you have given us your consent, the legal basis is Art.6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a GDPR. Insofar as the data processing is based on our overriding legitimate interests, the legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f GDPR. The stated purpose then corresponds to our legitimate interest.

We use cookies to ensure the proper operation of the website, to provide basic functionality, to measure reach and – with your consent – to tailor our services to preferred areas of interest.

You can delete cookies already stored on your end device at any time. If you want to prevent cookies from being stored, you can do this via the settings in your internet browser. You can find instructions for popular browsers here: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Google Chrome mobile, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Safari mobile. Alternatively, you can also install so-called ad blockers. Please note that individual functions of our website may not work if you have disabled the use of cookies.

When accessing our website, all users of our website are also informed by an information banner about our use of cookies and referred to this data protection notice. As a user, you will also be asked for your consent to the use of certain cookies, in particular for the personalization of services and for marketing measures. Once you have given your consent, you can revoke it at any time with future effect by calling up the tracking settings via the link at the end of each page (so-called footer) and unchecking the processing to which you had consented.

Name of the cookie Purpose of processing Legal basis for the processing Duration of storage
_icl_current_language Website session cookie / languages Legitimate interest – necessary for technical reasons Until the end of the session
cookieconsent Cookie to manage placement of cookies Legitimate interest – necessary for technical reasons 1 year

Usercentrics

We use the service Usercentrics to manage consents on our website. Usercentrics is software provided by Usercentrics GmbH, Rosental 4, 80331 Munich, Germany.

Usercentrics determines the language used by your browser. In order to check whether you have already made a selection in our consent tool during a previous visit to our website, a cookie is set. This cookie is necessary because it allows the website to recognize whether you have consented to tracking or not. In addition, a log file is created in order to be able to prove that consent has been given. This file contains the IP address in anonymized form, information about the browser used, data about the extent of consent, and the date and time of the visit.

The legal basis for the processing is our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f GDPR.

The purpose of data processing is the user-friendly and legally compliant design of our website. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to give or withdraw consent and increase the transparency of data processing by means of cookies, pixels, tag or similar on our website. In the purpose of data processing also lies our legitimate interest.

Your consent or your refusal to use / play out services, which may also set cookies, is stored on your end device in the so-called local storage. The consent data (consent given and revocation of consent) remains stored on your computer until the local storage is deleted. To enable a comparison, Usercentrics stores this as hash values for 3 years.

Contact

You can contact us on our e-mail address or using the various contact forms. We shall naturally only use the personal data conveyed to us in this manner for the purpose for which you provided it to us when contacting us.

Where our contact forms contain fields for information that is not necessary for contacting you, we have marked such fields as optional. We use this information to specify your enquiry and so that we can better handle your case. This information is provided solely on a voluntary basis with your consent. Where this concerns information on methods of communication (such as e-mail address, telephone number), you also consent to us contacting you via that method of communication in order to respond to your enquiry.

You may of course withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. To do so, please contact our Data Protection Officer, whose contact details you will find below.

* optional

Data transfer

Data will not be transferred to third parties for purposes other than those listed.

We will only transfer your personal data to third parties if:

  • You have given your express consent,
  • The transfer is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims and there is no reason to assume that you have an overriding and legitimate interest in the non-transfer of your data,
  • In the event that there is a statutory obligation for the transfer, and
  • This is lawful and necessary for the performance of contractual relations with you.

Data transmissions outside the European Union do not generally benefit from the high European standards of data protection. Where data is transferred, it is possible that there is no adequacy decision by the EU Commission as defined in Article 45(1), (3) GDPR. This means that the EU Commission has not yet decided that this country ensures an adequate level of protection in accordance with the data protection standards of the European Union on the basis of the EU GDPR, and we have therefore made the above-mentioned appropriate guarantees.

The possible risks which possibly cannot be fully excluded in connection with data transfer are:

  • You personal data could possibly be processed beyond the actual purpose.
  • There is also the possibility that you will not be able to sustainably exercise and enforce your rights under data protection laws, such as your right of access, rectification, erasure or data portability.
  • There could also be a higher probability that your data is not correctly processed and that the protection of your personal data does not fully meet the requirements of the EU GDPR in terms of quantity and quality.

Data security

We have taken comprehensive technical and operational security precautions in order to protect your data from accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons. Our security procedures are regularly revised and adapted to technological progress.

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). The responsible entity for users in the EU/EEA and Switzerland is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. In the event that IP anonymization is activated on this website, however, your IP address will be truncated beforehand by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there.

Insofar as data is processed outside the EU/EEA, we have concluded the standard data protection clauses adopted by the EU Commission in accordance with Art. 46 DSGVO with the service provider in order to establish a secure level of data protection, which permit the transfer of personal data to a third country in individual cases.

The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with any other data held by Google. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage to the website operator.

The data sent by us and linked to cookies, user IDs (e.g. user ID) or advertising IDs are automatically deleted after 14 months. The deletion of data whose retention period has been reached takes place automatically once a month.

The legal basis for the described data processing is your consent, Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a GDPR. Once you have given your consent, you can revoke it at any time with future effect by changing your selection in the tracking settings (see above, under Cookies). Alternatively, you can delete your cookies (all or only from this website). The banner with the selection options will then be displayed again.

You can find additional information on the terms of use and data protection at https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/de.html or at https://policies.google.com/?hl=de .

Google Adwords and Conversion Tracking

In order to draw attention to our services, we place Google Adwords ads and use Google Conversion Tracking and the Google Tag Manager for the purpose of personalized, interest- and location-related online advertising. The option to make IP addresses anonymous is controlled by Google Tag Manager through an internal setting that is not visible in the source of this page. This internal setting is set to achieve anonymization of IP addresses.

The integration is done via the Google Tag Manager (see Google Tag Manager in this privacy policy).

The ads are displayed on Google’s advertising network websites after search queries have been made. We have the option of combining our ads with specific search terms. Cookies allow us to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to our website.

When you click on an ad, Google places a cookie on the user’s computer. According to Google’s information, cookies usually remain active on your computer for about 30 days. Further information on the cookie technology used can also be found in Google’s website statistics and privacy policy .

With the help of this technology, Google and we as customers receive information that a user clicked on an ad and was directed to our web pages. The information obtained in this way is used exclusively for a statistical evaluation for the optimisation of advertisements. We do not receive any information with which visitors can be personally identified. The statistics provided to us by Google include the total number of users who clicked on one of our ads and, if applicable, whether they were directed to a page on our website with a conversion tag. These statistics enable us to track which keywords were clicked on our ad most frequently and which ads lead to the user contacting us via the contact form. Our legitimate interest in data processing also lies in these purposes. The legal basis for the use of Google Adwords and Conversion Tracking Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

If you do not wish this to happen, you can prevent the cookies required for these technologies from being saved, for example, by changing your browser settings. In this case, your visit will not be included in the user statistics.

Alternatively, Google Adwords and Conversion Tracking can be permanently disabled by clicking on the following link:

You also have the option of selecting the types of Google ads or disabling interest-based ads on Google via the ad settings . Alternatively, you can opt out of third-party use of cookies by going to the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out help .

However, we and Google continue to receive statistical information about how many users visited this site and when. If you also do not want to be included in these statistics, you can prevent this by using additional programs for your browser (such as the Ghostery add-on).

Facebook Custom Audience

“We use the Custom Audiences service of Facebook Inc. as part of our usage-based online advertising. (1601 S. California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA). For this purpose, we use the Facebook Ad Manager to define user target groups based on certain features that are subsequently displayed ads within the Facebook network. Users are selected by Facebook based on the profile information they provide and other information provided through the use of Facebook. If a user clicks on an advertisement and then visits our website, Facebook receives information from the Facebook pixel embedded on our website that the user clicked on the advertising banner. In principle, a non-reversible and non-personal checksum (hash value) is generated from your usage data and transmitted to Facebook for analysis and marketing purposes. A Facebook cookie is set. This collects information about your activities on our website (e.g. surfing behaviour, subpages visited, etc.). In addition, your IP address is stored and used for the geographical control of advertising. We do not use Facebook Custom Audiences via the customer list or the “extended comparison” function.

The legal basis for the processing is your voluntary consent within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a) GDPR. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future by using either the button provided here to deactivate Facebook Custom Audience or the button at the beginning of the data protection declaration to generally revoke your consent to the use of cookies and pixels.

Further information about the purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by Facebook as well as your setting options to protect your privacy can be found in Facebook’s data protection guidelines. You can make settings about which advertisements you see on Facebook under this link and in Facebook’s account settings.

The transfer of data to the USA is permitted according to Art. 45 DSGVO, as Facebook is Privacy Shield-certified and therefore an adequate level of data protection exists according to the implementing decision of the Commission (EU) 2016/1250 ( https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32016D1250&from=EN ). Certification can be viewed at https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000GnywAAC&status=Active .

For more information about Facebook’s Custom Audiences service, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/449542958510885

For more information on data processing and storage times, please contact the provider or visit https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy .

Deactivation of the “Facebook Custom Audiences” function is possible for logged in users at https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=ads# .

You can revoke your previously given consent at any time with effect for the future by clicking on the following link:

This shall not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of consent until revoked. No further data exchange with Facebook takes place with the declared revocation.

Further information on data processing by Facebook can be found at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy .

LinkedIn Conversion Tracking

We use the LinkedIn Conversion Tracking service of LinkedIn Corporation, 1000 W Maude Ave, Sunnyvale, CA, 94085-2810 USA as part of the evaluation of our online advertising. The responsible entity for users in the EU/EEA and Switzerland is LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, Wilton Plaza, Wilton Place, Dublin 2, Ireland.

For this purpose, we define target groups of users in the LinkedIn Campaign Manager based on certain characteristics, who will subsequently be shown advertisements within the LinkedIn network. The users are selected by LinkedIn based on the profile information they provide, as well as other data provided when using LinkedIn. If a user clicks on an advertisement and subsequently arrives on our website, LinkedIn receives the information that the user has clicked on the advertising banner via the conversion tag embedded on our website.

The LinkedIn tag thus enables the following data to be collected:

  • Pages visited, including the URL,
  • Referrers
  • IP-adress
  • Device and browser properties (user agent)
  • and timestamp

IP addresses are shortened or hashed (for cross-device use) by LinkedIn . The direct identifiers of the members are removed within 7 days to pseudonymize the data. The remaining pseudonymous data is then deleted within 180 days.

LinkedIn does not share the personal data with us, as the website operator, but only provides us with reports and notifications (which do not identify the user) about website visits and ad performance. LinkedIn also provides so-called retargeting, so we, as website operator, can show personalized ads outside our website using this data without identifying individual members. Data that does not identify you is also used to improve ad relevance and reach LinkedIn members across devices. LinkedIn members can control the use of their personal information for advertising purposes through their account settings. LinkedIn refers to the following link to customize advertising preferences: https://www.linkedin.com/psettings/advertising/actions-that-showed-interest

We process this data to evaluate our advertising campaigns. The legal basis for the processing is your voluntary consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) a) GDPR. Without your consent via our cookie banner, no processing of data for LinkedIn conversion tracking takes place.

In the context of LinkedIn conversion tracking, LinkedIn naturally has access to the listed data. In particular, it is possible that in addition to LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, Wilton Plaza, Wilton Place, Dublin 2, Ireland, LinkedIn Corporation, 1000 W Maude Ave, Sunnyvale, CA, 94085-2810 USA also has access to your data.

The LinkedIn Corporation is located here in an insecure third country, in which the level of data protection is lower. Since a transfer of the data collected by the pixel described here to the LinkedIn Corporation cannot be ruled out, appropriate guarantees are required to ensure an adequate level of data protection.

In this regard, LinkedIn provides, as part of the respective LinkedIn services agreement, a Data Processing Agreement with linked standard contractual clauses for customers of its LinkedIn services, which can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/l/dpa .

You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future. To do so, use either the button provided here below to deactivate LinkedIn Conversion Tracking, or the button at the beginning of the Privacy Policy to generally revoke your consent to the use of cookies and pixels.

The lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until the revocation is not affected by this. With the declared revocation, no further data exchange with LinkedIn takes place.

For more information about the purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by LinkedIn, as well as your settings options for protecting your privacy, you can also refer to the privacy policy of LinkedIn.

Votely

We use the wpgens.com PlugIn Votely to conduct short surveys (with two possible answers) within our articles. The PlugIn is operated exclusively on our servers in Germany and does not establish a connection to the site of a third party provider. If you do not participate in the survey, no data from you will be processed by the PlugIn. If you click on one of the answers, your choice will be saved without allocation to a pseudonym or your IP address. Only the country from which you cast your vote is recorded. In addition, participation in the survey sets a cookie in your browser that allows the browser to be uniquely identified when you return to the website and contains the information that you have already participated in the survey. In this way, we prevent falsification/abuse of the survey by preventing multiple voting. This is also our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit f) DSGVO. Google Tag Manager

For reasons of transparency, we would like to inform you that we use the Google Tag Manager. The Google Tag Manager itself does not record any personal data. The Tag Manager simplifies the tag implementation and management process for us. Tags are small code elements used, among other things, to measure traffic and visitor behaviour, to measure the impact of online advertising and social channels, to set up remarketing and targeting, and to test and optimise websites. We use the Tag Manager for Google Analytics and Google Adsense services. If you have deactivated these services, Google Tag Manager will take into account this deactivation. For further information on Google Tag Manager, see: https://www.google.com/intl/de/tagmanager/use-policy.html .

Integration of third-party content

Third-party content, such as videos from YouTube or maps from Google Maps, are integrated into our online offer on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 letter f) GDPR. This always presupposes that the providers of this content (hereinafter referred to as “third party providers”) are aware of the IP address of the users. Because without the IP address, they could not send the content to the browser of the respective user. The IP address is therefore required for the display of this content. We make every effort to use only those contents whose respective providers use the IP address only for the delivery of the contents. However, we have no influence on this if the third party providers store the IP address, e.g. for statistical purposes. As far as we know, we inform the users about this.

Deactivation / Activation of cookies

You may change your decision to use cookies and third-party services to enhance your website experience at any time by clicking a button on the banner that appears on your first visit or on this privacy page by clicking the following link.
